Wai Chin Mr Chong 31st Lorne Cancer Conference 2019

Wai Chin Mr Chong

Chong obtained his BMedSc (Hons) majoring in molecular biology and pathology from the University of Tasmania. He subsequently held the positions of a research assistant of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Tasmania. He is now pursuing his research interest in cancer research at Hudson Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne as a PhD student with a focus on the differentiation therapy in treating solid tumours. Impaired differentiation is a common feature of cancer. In contrast to chemotherapy, the goal of differentiation therapy is to exhaust the malignant potential of tumour cells through the reactivation of developmental programs rather than cell death. Therefore, it could serve as an alternative therapeutic strategy in treating cancer with minimal adverse effects. By using various cancer cell lines, the overall goal of Chong is to search for potential drugs that can induce differentiation in cancer cell.
